Christmas Fayre

Posted by Leicesterprep on 13th December 2011

Well done Year 5 and 6 for all the great games you thought up for the younger pupils to play. You managed to raise £80. The School Council will decide with Mrs Radulovic what we will spend it on.

I am the Humming Bird

Posted by Leicesterprep on 15th November 2011

Earlier in term we marked the sad death of Professor Wangari Maathi, the founder of Greenbelt Movement. In an assembly the children were told something of this remarkable woman and all that she has done to further the cause of human rights and concern for our planet.  As a school we would like to support the Greenbelt movement as it aime to plant 1 billion trees in honour of its founder and in support of her life’s work.

Do visit the website www.greenbeltmovement.org with your parents and watch the you tube clip about the story of the humming bird. What can we do as a school? It would be great to plant some trees as part of the project, wouldn’t it?

Barnardos

Posted by Leicesterprep on 9th November 2011

Thank you to everyone who has been donating to Barnardos through the little yellow money boxes. Mrs Jo Barnes says we have raised about £300, which is excellent! She will give us a full total as soon as she has finished adding up all the pennies.

Do you remember who Dr Barnardo was ? See if you can find out . The charity does tremendous work today helping children and young families today. Mrs Barnes told us all about the young carer, David. Year 5 and 6 will have a chance to see the film which tells us more about his story in their PSHE lesson soon.

Keep up the good work saving money in your little yellow boxes.

Half Term

Posted by Leicesterprep on 27th October 2011

One of the best thinks about working in school at half term is the silence! No phonecalls ! Having said that a very pleasant mum has just popped by enquiring about a place for her daughter.

Contary to popular myth the half term break is not a two week slot away in the sun for staff. Much time is spent at this time of year updating planning and, for us at LPS , grappling with our new IT systems and uploading info for shared planning and future staff meetings.

The silence does allow for a little bit of reflection. My main focus has been how all at LPS need to be shouting from the roof tops loud and clear what a remarkable little school we have here. The new adverts are coming out on Leicester station and the new prospectus on to the updated 2nd draft stage with photo choice. The website changes are underway and a full diary of visits to our feeder nurseries planned. With affiliation to ISA later in the academic year the school will be firmly on the independent school map!

All work and no play though…! The mild weather has meant an extra mowing of the lawn at home which I actually secretly enjoy doing! My dog Lottie insists on dropping rotten apples infront of the approaching blades which is not so funny, but the children will know from assembly talks, my dogs Lottie and Gracie have many tricks to play! Escapism comes with a good read, at present J Sansom’s Heartstone. Final chapters are imminent in the Tudor Who Dunnit!

Women and Children First !

Posted by Leicesterprep on 18th October 2011

Imagine what it must have been like to have been there on the night of 15th April 1912 and to have watched the Titanic go down. Year 6 have been studying some reports of the disaster from different standpoints and building up to a piece of creative writing of their own. There are many interesting websites telling you the fact about that great marine disaster. See what you can find out to colour your writing. And of course there is the film…..

Why do they say women and children first ?

I look forward to reading your creative writing which I will get you to assess for yourselves first. Good luck!
